Solve the following word problems.

 1.       Ms. Cole bought lunch from Papa John’s for her class.  The total bill was $55.00.  If she leaves a 20% tip, how much tip would she leave?

 

2.      Keshawna bought $45.00 worth of pencils from Office Max.  If the sales tax is 4.5%, what was the total of her purchase?

 

 3.      Nathan had $2000.00 to buy a T.V. from Circuit City.  The T.V. he wants is $1799.00 with 5% sales tax.  Does he have enough money to pay for the T.V.

 

 4.      The Johnson’s dinner bill was $79.00.  If they plan to leave a 20% tip, how much would be their total bill?

 

 5.      Tim bought two 12 packs of soda for $4.99 each.  If the sales tax is 3.5%, how much was the total cost of the sodas?

 

6.  Johnny wants to buy a bike but does not know if he has enough money. If the price of the bike is $85 and the sales tax is     6% . What will be the total cost of the bike?

 

7. Jeff receives his cell phone bill in the mail.  The bill was for $99 and the sales tax is 4.5%. How much was Jeff's total cell phone bill?

 

8.   Kenya bought 5 new video games from Game Stop.  He had a $100.00 bill.  The total cost of his video games is $89.00 and there is a 5% sales tax.  Does he have enough money to buy his video games?

 

9. Mrs. Tims bought a dress priced at $98.25.  If the sales tax is 6%, what is the total amount she paid for the dress?

 

 10.  Jonathan makes $220.00 per week.  Every week employer deducts 4% of his earnings for dental insurance.  How much of Jonathan’s earning is taken out for his insurance?
